Both had paper bags on their heads. T<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">hey proceed to juggle up to five hats.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One and the Other<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> really comes into its own after that though. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That\u2019s when the duo \u2013 now sporting more demure attire \u2013 spread a tea party onto a couple of tray tables. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With Sue Broadway balancing a full teapot on her head, her and Debra Batton\u2019s next exchange is not only breathtaking, but hilarious. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To say any more would be to spoil a delightful surprise. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When a bulked up Batton (think the Michelin man) appears and a voice over reels off a series of sporting triumphs, each one is accompanied by a t-shirt she&#8217;s wearing. She removes them \u2013 dozens of them \u2013 one by one. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What Broadway achieves with five glass tumblers and five metals spoons has to be seen to be believed. Twenty <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">years on, they&#8217;re still at it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Batton and Broadway devised t<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">his one-of-a-kind production that combines acerbic truths with audacious acts. A talented musician (Teresa Blake) accompanies the action. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Directed by Clare Bartholomew, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One and the Other<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2013 which runs about an hour \u2013is playing at <a href=\"http:\/\/lamama.com.au\/2018-winter-spring-program\/one-and-the-other\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">La Mama Courthouse<\/a> in Carlton until 28<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> October 2018.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Alex First<\/h4>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Two women of a certain age do what women of a certain age don\u2019t usually do &#8211; and love it &#8211; in One and the Other.
