Maybe because\u00a0it features three heroes who play themselves?\u00a0But let\u2019s face it, they&#8217;re not actors and this isn&#8217;t a documentary.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4514\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/theblurb.com.au\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/1517-to-Paris-01.jpg?resize=560%2C303\" alt=\"\" width=\"560\" height=\"303\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/theblurb.com.au\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/1517-to-Paris-01.jpg?w=560&amp;ssl=1 560w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/theblurb.com.au\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/1517-to-Paris-01.jpg?resize=300%2C162&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 560px) 100vw, 560px\" \/>I&#8217;m talking about Anthony Sadler; National Guardsman Alek Skarlatos; and US Air Force man Spencer Stone. Stone gets most screen time and is the only one whose character shines through.<\/p>\n<p>I vividly recall the real life incident.\u00a0It happened little more than two years ago \u2013 in the early evening of 21st August 2015. The three protagonists thwarted a terrorist attack on a train bound for Paris with more than 500 people on board.\u00a0In a split second, they stepped up.<\/p>\n<p>This film follows the course of the three friends&#8217; lives, from their struggles during childhood to finding their footing in life.\u00a0But this picture has a telemovie feel to it.<\/p>\n<p>Much of the acting in <em>The 15:17 To Paris<\/em> is wooden, the scripting trite and the middle section becomes a totally unnecessary travelogue. What the heck?<\/p>\n<p>I didn\u2019t check, but I reckon the essence of this picture \u2013 the drama on the train \u2013 was over in less than 10 minutes.\u00a0The rest of the time was spent examining how the trio first met at primary school, their military engagement and their European vacation.\u00a0I kept asking what was I missing, but the whole package was flawed.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/IC_lnyn2R2Q\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>Screenwriter Dorothy Blyskal \u2013 her first screenplay \u2013 and director Eastwood have made a meal of it.\u00a0<em>The 15:17 To Paris<\/em> felt shallow and lacklustre, with some elements decidedly out of place.\u00a0The portent of the ordinary was showcased early on and I\u2019m afraid an intelligible structure was missing after that.\u00a0The only saving grace is that we know Clint Eastwood (an Oscar winner for <em>Million Dollar Baby<\/em> and <em>Unforgiven<\/em>) is capable of so much better.<\/p>\n<h6>Director: Clint Eastwood<br \/>\nCast: Anthony Sadler, Alek Skarlatos, Spencer Stone<br \/>\nRelease Date: 8 February 2018<br \/>\nRating: M<\/h6>\n<h4>Alex First<\/h4>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I have no idea why a director of Clint Eastwood\u2019s standing would associate himself with such a poor quality movie as The 15:17 to Paris.
