StalkHer soundtrack – music news

The official soundtrack to StalkHer, the new Australian movie starring John Jarratt (Wolf Creek 1 & 2) has been released and is now available via Remote Control Records.OK

The film’s title track is performed by Wishful, whose members include Memphis & Maddy Kelly – the daughters of the film’s lead actress and co-director Kaarin Fairfax and musical legend Paul Kelly. Wishful are fresh from a European tour supporting C. W. Stoneking.

Iconic Australian actor John Jarratt’s latest release not only cements his place as one of our country’s leading men (just ask Tarantino!) but also reveals his triple threat status – actor, director, singer! “Killer in Me” is the first single release from the soundtrack, and the video clocked up over 100,000 views on YouTube in less than two months. The track boasts all the hallmarks of country pop/rock and, like the film, the song is dark yet playful. Jarratt brings all his menacing glory to the fore and minces it with a good dose of grit, then washes it down with a hint of irony. Jarratt’s StalkHer co-star, and three-time AFI nominee, Kaarin Fairfax is on backing vocals, with renowned Australian blues musician Smokin’ Sam on harmonica. Watch it below:

The remainder of the StalkHer soundtrack includes an eclectic splay of internationally renowned artists and songs in an eclectic mix, with a common theme of raw primal energy, desire, and a blatant need for loving and relief. The mix runs from classical (Mozart) to glam rock (Skyhooks); from indie (The Go-Betweens) to pub rock (The Angels); from angelic songstress (Sarah Blasko) to Australia’s Prince of Darkness (Nick Cave). There’s even a dose of dirty trance, courtesy of Mark J D’Angelo, Tony Ianiro & Craig Jansson of The Backlot Studios.

In the film released, Jack (played by Jarratt) is pushed past the brink of his stalking obsession when finally decides to break into Emily’s (Kaarin Fairfax) home to take what he wants by force. However his plans for her pain and his pleasure come unhinged when he wakes up to find himself bleeding and bound to a chair in her kitchen. It doesn’t take long for Jack to realise that Emily is not the woman he thought she was. For one night Jack and Emily engage in a twisted and thrilling courtship that leads one to wonder which one of them will survive the night.

The StalkHer official motion picture soundtrack is out now. The film is released in cinemas on August 27 via Ozpix Entertainment.
