Shakin' all over

Can't say that I expected much from this 19 year-old bloke from the UK named Cosmo, but his debut double album Humasyouhitch / Sonofabitch is a complete musical thrill from beginning to end.

Most of my doubt comes from his youth, but his gift goes well beyond his age as he not only is a talented singer/songwriter but plays every instrument here himself. He also is a filmmaker, storyteller, poet, Jessica Alba enthusiast and campaigner for the equal treatment of gay pirates – so do I have you sold yet?

If not, keep reading – Jarvis has split his energy into two parts here with the first being Humasyouhitch, that is more categorized as his fun side. The lyrics are more comical and light-hearted plus you get to hear all the fantasy girls he will never date in the funny but catchy “Jessica Alba’s Number”.

Leaving Cosmo at the first side would be OK, but the second part of the album Sonofabitch is where Jarvis lets his darker personal experiences come out. It is this balance of both records that makes him complete.

It doesn’t matter if the song has a soaring melody or a rapped-over verse, Cosmo Jarvis is the real deal and his debut supplies plenty of surprises with each listen. It is a record that has an attitude that works in its favour and puts Jarvis as a future talent to watch from across the seas.
